Overview

Folio is a self-hosted team wiki where pages, tables, whiteboards, and files are stored in a Git repository. People can edit together in real time, and agents can work with the same content through MCP.

About

Folio keeps a team wiki in a Git repository the team controls. People can edit documents, data tables, forms, whiteboards, and diagrams together in a browser, then review changes through Git history. Its built-in assistant and MCP server let agents work with the same pages and records, within each person’s permissions. Folio is open source under the MIT license and can be self-hosted. Pages and whiteboards can be edited offline, while data tables, forms, and file uploads need a connection. It requires a long-running server with PostgreSQL and Redis, so it does not run on serverless hosting.

Good for

  • — Teams that want wiki content in a Git repository they control
  • — Collaborative documents, tables, and whiteboards
  • — Teams that want AI agents to work with their knowledge base

Limitations

  • — Requires a long-running server with PostgreSQL and Redis
  • — Does not support serverless hosting
  • — Offline mode covers pages and whiteboards, while tables, forms, and uploads need a connection
  • — The built-in assistant currently requires a Cursor subscription
