Overview

Write newsletter issues, send them through your own Amazon SES account, and publish a public archive. Mailcheap stores your reader list in your own database.

About

Mailcheap is a self-hosted app for sending newsletters through Amazon SES. Write an issue in its editor, send it to your reader list, and publish an archive of past issues. It includes newsletter signup forms, contact management, scheduled campaigns, unsubscribe handling, bounce and complaint processing, and campaign reports. Contact data stays in your MongoDB database. QStash handles scheduled sending, and Amazon SES sends the email. Mailcheap is an MIT-licensed open source release by Marc Lou. The project README describes it as a one-time release with no ongoing support or planned updates. You manage the deployment and pay for hosting and connected services.

Good for

  • — Sending newsletters from infrastructure you manage
  • — Keeping reader and campaign data in your own database
  • — Publishing a web archive alongside email campaigns
  • — Using Amazon SES instead of a subscriber-priced newsletter service

Limitations

  • — Setup requires a MongoDB database, Amazon SES, QStash, and a Node.js host
  • — You manage the deployment and pay for hosting and connected services
  • — The project is a one-time release with no ongoing support or planned updates
  • — It is a focused newsletter tool, not a full marketing automation platform
