Overview

Compositor brings layers, masks, selections, filters, retouching, and PSD import to a free, open source Mac app built around familiar image editing workflows.

About

Compositor is made for people who build an image from layers rather than make a quick crop and move on. It has folders, masks, blend modes, selection tools, brushes, text, shapes, and color adjustments. The layout and shortcuts will feel familiar to Photoshop users, especially for compositing and photo finishing. It can open PSD and PSB files and export PNG, JPEG, and PDF. Some Photoshop content is converted or flattened during import, so a complex file is worth checking before you move a project over. Compositor runs on Apple silicon Macs with macOS 26 or later.

Good for

  • — Layered compositing and photo finishing on an Apple silicon Mac.
  • — People who want familiar masks, selections, and shortcuts in a free editor.
  • — Opening a PSD file and continuing the work in a Mac app.

Limitations

  • — It requires macOS 26 or later and an Apple silicon Mac.
  • — Some PSD and PSB features are converted or flattened on import.
  • — The app is currently available in English only.
