Overview
An open-source parametric CAD app built in Rust. Sketch and constrain geometry, build solids on a feature timeline, and use the desktop app, browser version, CLI, or MCP server.
About
SolidCraft is an open-source parametric 3D CAD application written in Rust. Sketch on planes, add geometric constraints and dimensions, then build solids with extrudes, revolves, lofts, fillets, holes, patterns, and other features. An editable timeline lets you change earlier steps and rebuild the model when a dimension changes.
You can run the desktop app on Windows, macOS, or Linux, use the browser version, or script operations with the CLI. The same command system powers an MCP server, so compatible AI agents can create, inspect, measure, export, and edit designs. SolidCraft works with common CAD and mesh formats including STEP, IGES, STL, 3MF, and OBJ, with different capabilities for solid and mesh models.
SolidCraft is early and most useful for simple parts and supported modeling workflows. Advanced surface modeling, technical drawings, CAM, and simulation are outside the current feature set. The project is licensed MIT or Apache-2.0, at your choice.
Good for
- — Making parametric solid parts from constrained sketches
- — Changing dimensions and rebuilding a model through its feature timeline
- — Scripting repeatable CAD operations with the CLI
- — Letting compatible AI agents create and inspect models through MCP
Limitations
- — The project is early and does not yet cover the full range of mature CAD workflows
- — Advanced surfaces, technical drawings, CAM, and simulation are not part of the current feature set
- — Imported STL and OBJ files remain mesh bodies rather than editable parametric solids
- — Agent workflows require a separate MCP-compatible client
